Brick by brick and timber by timber, Red Mountain Used Brick crews deconstruct inactive mills and factories throughout the United States. Green and environmentally responsible, our process of deconstruction allows Red Mountain to reclaim unique building products and bring the beauty to you and your customer while reducing the impact on our environment.

Red Mountain is able to yield an extremely high percentage of usable fiber from our salvaged timber. Sixty three years of sawmill experience has helped to make us an industry leader in not only the quality of our material, but efficiencies that mean less waste of this valuable resource at the mill, and more value to our customers. We select, grade and saw each timber in such a way as to optimize each piece into moldings, wainscot, flooring, millwork and furniture blanks. Nothing goes to waste. By offering a full line of Green Products our team is not only getting valuable yield from our limited resource, but we are also able to offer more recycled options to the market place.

The Manufacturing Process

There are multiple steps in the manufacturing process of salvaged lumber. These steps include;

  • Deconstruction of Mill or Factory
  • Sizing and sorting
  • De-nailing (removing all of the iron in the fiber)
  • Sawing the material on the mill.
  • Optimizing the material for yield.
  • Straight line ripping the lumber
  • Parallel ripping the lumber
  • Kiln drying the lumber
  • Surfacing / Sizing the lumber
  • Milling or molding the stock
  • Grading / Chopping / Packaging

The Finished Product

We have integrated modern technology with the craftsmanship of previous generations of milling operations. Buildings are dismantled slowly and largely by hand; metal is extracted painstakingly, trying to disturb as little fiber as possible. Modern kerf bands yield the most fiber, while craftsmen select, grade and then feed wood by hand through modern rip saws and molders.

The finished product is a blend of maximum operational efficiency and the unsurpassed beauty of one-of-a-kind antique wood.
